Global report card: How well rich countries do at fighting poverty overseas |

The Center for Global Development calls it the Commitment Index, and the 2012 edition is now available. It is a ranking of how well 27 of the world’s wealthiest nations actually do at helping poor people overseas (as compared to the rhetoric):

“Committing to policies that promote development and well-being is a global imperative—no human being should be denied the chance to live free of poverty and oppression and to enjoy a basic standard of education and health. The CDI countries, all democracies, preach concern for human life and dignity within their own borders; the Index looks at whether rich countries’ actions match their words.”

The United States doesn’t score too well. Maybe a C-minus at best.
