Global Peace Index 2013

The Guardian reports on the release of the 2013 Global Peace Index and finds that the world has become less peaceful lately. The Global Peace Index ranks 162 countries for security, conflict and the degree of militarization. This year’s report continues the trend since 2008 of an increasingly violent planet, though the news is not altogether bad. The violence in Syria tends to tilt the scales and most conflict these days is not between nations. A silver lining?

The Guardian news site  always does a great job with graphics and visual information but I’d encourage you to go to the site itself, which is even better. Screen grab:
