Humanosphere is on hiatus. Many thanks to our web design, development and hosting partner Culture Foundry for keeping the site active while we plan our next move. Humanosphere is Going on Hiatus

From the publisher

As of July 1, Humanosphere will be taking a break to consider our future.

The site and excellent content produced by staff will remain accessible indefinitely, and may even be sporadically replenished as we explore how to reinvent. But we will cease, for now, to produce daily news stories on the humanitarian scene.

We’re not happy about it and could argue such reporting has never been more important. The big challenge for us, for most media today, is funding the operation. Arguably, we have been pushing a rock up a hill for many years by trying to draw more attention to the plight of the world’s poorest and most disenfranchised people. And we’ve had some success. But for many reasons, that rock has only gotten bigger and the hill steeper.

Money is the main problem, but it’s not the only problem. At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I believe we are living in a historic time of crisis – a perfect storm of economic and political disenfranchisement combined with a malfunctioning information ecosystem. We need a new approach, and a better business model to achieve our mission as a news site.

I will have more to say to our loyal and lovely readers, our community, as we explore how we may create a new strategy and structure.

Thanks, stay tuned and continue to give a damn!
