One of the biggest things the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation would like to do in global health is prompt scientists and engineers (or just highly inventive people) to come up with new ways to solve old problems.
The Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative, which has issued its latest round of request for proposals, aims to do just that. This year, they are looking for people who want to find cures for HIV, new sanitation technologies, a better polio vaccination strategy, new technologies that promote safe birth and cellphone-based health interventions (like diagnostics).
